TBBWI – June 2024 Meeting Minutes

Record of the main Meeting held at South Weald Parish Hall at 8pm on 19th June 2024.

Speakers: Sam Panzetta and members of Red Watch fire crew.

The President welcomed 63 members to the Hall, and to Sam Panzetta and four other fire
crew who were this evening’s guests. Notices were given, and Marion was presented with a
card from the Belles to thank her for organising the plant stall last month. Housekeeping
notices were given, and the record of the previous meeting were taken as read and signed.

The President then explained how the evening would work with half going outside to the fire
engine whilst the remainder stayed in the hall to hear a fire safety talk. Members were given
a comprehensive ‘tour’ of the fire engine which was parked in the carpark and the crew
demonstrated the kit they would need to wear when tackling a blaze. They answered many
varied questions. A fire safety presentation was given, and members were advised that they
should have a family ‘escape plan’ in place in case of a fire in the home. They were also
advised they could request a free smoke alarm check.

At the break, Sam was asked to judge this month’s competition which was to write a limerick
about the emergency services. Although hard, the winners were finally chosen as follows:-
1st Place – Gemma C, 2nd Helen B – 3 points, and 3rd – Angela VDS 2 points. All other entrants
were awarded 1 point each.

Notices were given about Lunch Club and a forthcoming walking tour of Colchester. The
President thanked the fire crew for their very informative visit and, after a photo or two beside
the fire engine with blue lights flashing, the evening closed at 10pm.
