TBBWI – May 2023 Meeting Minutes – Wild Swimming with Ella Foote

Record of the main Meeting held at South Weald Parish Hall at 8pm on Wednesday 17 th May, 2023

The President welcomed 63 members plus our guest speaker, Ella Foote.

The President spoke of housekeeping.

The record of the previous meeting was taken as read and signed.

The President then introduced this month’s speaker, Ella, who gave a very entertaining presentation about her passion, Wild Water Swimming. This linked particularly well with the WI campaign for cleaner rivers. At the end of her talk, Ella answered questions from members. The President thanked the speaker and members then voted in favour of supporting the resolution, Clean Rivers for People and Wildlife. This result will be communicated to our delegate to take to the national Conference.

The speaker then judged our challenge cup competition which, this month, was to design a coronation souvenir.

The results as follows;
Beryl P – 4 points for her coronation themed crocheted blanket, Annette DG 3 points and Marion – 2 points. All other entries were awarded a point.

At the break, the ever- popular annual plant stall was run by Marion with help from Barbara and Annette. Members generously brought along plants and seedlings. This year the total funds raised were donated to St Clare Hospice in memory of our member, Jackie Fisher. The sum of £90 was raised.

Notices were given as follows:-
– Notices were given about planned trips to Barnard’s Farm and Rayleigh Windmill.
– Notices were given about the Art Trail and Worldwide Knit in Public Day with more details to follow.
– A reminder was given about lunch club and anyone wanting to go should speak to Beryl or Vena.
– Notice was given that next month’s speaker is Georgina Farrell, a knitwear designer with Rowan. The challenge cup will be to enter any knitted or crocheted item.
