TBBWI – October 2024 Meeting Minutes

Record of the Main Meeting held at South Weald Parish Hall at 8pm on 16th October, 2024.
A History of Alfred Hitchcock in Essex with Gary Lewis.
The President welcomed 60 members to the meeting and outlined the safety procedures. Reminders were given of the next trip which is to Crossness Pumping Station. Our president, Jane,
then introduced Gary Lewis, former train driver and local historian.
Gary gave an interesting talk on the birth and life of filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock. With a powerpoint presentation, he showed us many local landmarks in Leytonstone and other areas of Essex, including many former cinemas where Hitchcock would have visited and his films would have played upon their release. The talk also included details on the Hitchcock family and the general history of Leytonstone, anchoring special family stories to streets, pubs, and other locations we can visit today.
The Challenge Cup was to write a Two Sentence Horror Story. Gary judged the Challenge Cup as follows:
1st Place – Alison B. and Debbie N., 4 points, 2nd – Gemma C., 3 points, and 3rd – Debbie O’C, 2
points.
Members were given advance notice of next month’s meeting which is demonstration on how to make Mocktails with Misha from Ginny’s Lounge in Maldon in preparation for Holiday Parties. Our challenge cup will be to name a WI or Brentwood Belles themed cocktail.
The president thanked our guest speaker, and the meeting closed at 10pm.
